When it was almost evening, the disciples came to him. “We’re in the middle of nowhere,” they told him, “and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy some food.”

Jesus didn’t say a word. So his disciples came and begged him, “Tell her to go away! She keeps following us and crying out for help.”

Late in the afternoon the 12 disciples came to him. They said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the nearby villages and countryside and find food to eat and a place to stay, because there’s nothing here.”

I don’t want to send them away hungry, because if I do, they may be too weak to make it back home. I know that some of them have come a long way.”

When Jesus heard what had happened, he went by himself in a boat to a remote place. When the crowds learned he was coming, they came out of their towns and walked over to where he would land.

When Jesus got to shore, he found a large crowd waiting for him. Moved with compassion for them, he healed their sick people.

Jesus answered, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
