“Go and stand in the temple courtyard,” the angel said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”

But when the Spirit of truth comes, he’ll guide you into all the truth. He won’t speak on his own, he’ll speak only what he hears. He’ll tell you what’s still going to happen.

“I’ve told you all this so that you won’t turn away from the truth.

“We gave you clear orders not to teach in Jesus’ name,” he said. “But you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching. You want to make us guilty of this man’s blood.”

Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you’re speaking plainly and not using images and stories.

“I’ve been telling you things using images and stories. But a time is coming when I won’t use examples; I’ll tell you plainly about my Father.

“You are being given the chance to understand the secrets of God’s kingdom. But to outsiders, I speak in stories. That way, “ ‘They’ll see, but they won’t know what they’re seeing; they’ll hear, but they won’t understand what they’re hearing.’

Since we have that kind of hope, we are very bold.

So he went to the synagogue and talked both with Jews and with Greeks who worshiped God. Each day he also spoke with anyone who happened to be in the marketplace.

No one who’s on a housetop should go down into the house to take anything out.

What you’ve said in the dark will be heard in the daylight; what you’ve whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the rooftops.
