It’s the same with the promises that God made to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture doesn’t say, “and to your seeds.” That would mean many people. It says, “and to your seed.” That means one person—Christ.
This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother Mary had promised to marry a man named Joseph. But before they lived together, she became pregnant. This happened by the power of the Holy Spirit, but Joseph didn’t know that.
Abraham and his family received a promise that he would inherit the world, but that wasn’t because he obeyed the law. It was because of his faith, which made him right with God.
A Canaanite woman who lived near there came to him and cried out, “Lord! Son of David! Have mercy on me! A demon has been controlling my daughter and making her suffer terribly.”
Right after Jesus was baptized, as he was coming up out of the water, at that moment, heaven was opened and Jesus saw the Spirit of God coming down on him like a dove.
