We don’t have a high priest who can’t feel what we feel when we’re weak. Instead, we have a high priest who has been tempted in every way just as we are, but without sinning.
So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with tender love for him. He ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.
When Jesus came ashore, he found a large crowd. He felt deep concern for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.
but Jesus wouldn’t let him. Instead, he said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how kind he has been to you.”
So he had to be made like them—fully human in every way. That way he could serve God as a merciful and faithful high priest and purify the people from their sins.
