The Pharisees came and began to ask Jesus questions. They wanted to test him, so they asked him for a sign from heaven.

We shouldn’t test the Lord, as some of them did—and they were killed by snakes.

Some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”

Jesus told him, “You people will never believe unless you see signs and wonders.”

Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.

Peter asked her, “How could the two of you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! Those footsteps you hear are of the men coming back from burying your husband. They’re going to carry you out too.”

“Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in him?

So they asked him, “Then what sign will you give us so we can see it and believe you?

One day an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to have eternal life?”

Should we pay, or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew they had bad motives for asking. So he responded, “Why are you trying to trap me? Bring me a silver coin and let me look at it.”

Some teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw Jesus eating with sinners and tax collectors, and they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

That same day the Sadducees, who don’t believe that people rise from the dead, came to Jesus with a question.

But Jesus knew they had bad motives for asking. He said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me?

The Pharisees went out and made a plan to trap Jesus with his own words.

Jesus went into the temple courtyard and started teaching there. The chief priests and elders of the people came up to him and asked, “By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?”

Some Pharisees came to test Jesus. They asked, “Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife for any reason he wants?”

They were trying to trap Jesus with that question, so they’d have a reason to bring charges against him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

“What are you arguing about with them?” Jesus asked.
