The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others say one of the prophets.”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others say Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Then they turned again to the blind man. “What do you have to say about him?” they asked. “It was your eyes he opened.” The man answered, “He’s a prophet.”

The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this. He said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him—what kind of woman she is. She’s a sinner!”

All the people were filled with wonder, and they praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us!” they said. “God has come to help his people.”

In this way, he will make sure that the people are ready for the Lord.”

But when Herod heard this, he said, “I had John’s head cut off, but now he has been raised from the dead!”
