But when they opposed Paul and treated him badly, he shook out his clothes in protest. He told them, “God’s judgment against you will be your own fault! Don’t blame me for it! From now on, I will go to the Gentiles.”
The people of Sodom and Gomorrah and the towns around them did immoral and unnatural things. Those people are an example of those who are punished with fire that never goes out.
By that same word, the heavens and earth of today are being reserved for fire. They’re being kept ready for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.
Since all of this is true, then the Lord knows how to save godly people and keep them safe in times of testing. But he also knows how to keep ungodly people under guard until the day they will be judged and punished.
Because you’re being so stubborn, and you’re not sorry in your heart for your sins, you’re making God more and more angry with you. The day of God’s anger is coming. Then he will pass judgment openly and fairly.
The people in some places may not welcome you; if they don’t, leave and shake the dust off your feet. This will be a witness against the people living there.”
