When Jesus got out of the boat, a man controlled by an evil spirit came out of the tombs to meet him.

Just then a man in the synagogue who was controlled by an evil spirit cried out,

This was because Jesus had already said, “Come out of this man, you evil spirit!”

Even as the boy was coming, the demon threw him into a fit, and he fell to the ground. But Jesus ordered the evil spirit to leave the boy. He healed him and gave him back to his father.

When Jesus stepped on shore, a man from the town came out to meet him. This man was controlled by demons. For a long time he hadn’t worn clothes or lived in a house; instead, he lived among the tombs.

There was a woman whose little daughter had an evil spirit. As soon as the woman heard that Jesus was nearby, she came and bowed down at his feet.

Jesus began to teach again by the Sea of Galilee. A very large crowd gathered around him, so he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake while all the people stayed along the shore at the water’s edge.

Jesus said this because the teachers of the law were saying, “He has an evil spirit.”

The evil spirit shook the man wildly and came out of him with a scream.

Because the crowd was so big, Jesus told his disciples to get a small boat ready for him so the people wouldn’t crush him.

Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along in the boat just as he was. Other boats came along as well.

He lived in the tombs, and no one could keep him tied up anymore, not even with a chain.

Jesus went by boat back across the Sea of Galilee. When he landed on the other side, a large crowd gathered around him.
