Jesus told the crowd another story. He said, “Here’s what the kingdom of heaven is like. A man planted good seed in his field.

“Here’s what the story means:

“A farmer went out to plant his seed. As he scattered the seed on the ground, some fell on a path. People walked on it and the birds ate it up.

People who make peace plant it like a seed, and they’ll harvest a crop of right living.

Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

Then Jesus asked, “What is God’s kingdom like? What can I compare it to?

Jesus told them one more story. “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast,” he said. “A woman mixed it into 60 pounds of flour, and the yeast worked its way through all of that dough.”

Jesus told the crowd another story. He said, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and planted in a field.

He answered, “Because they aren’t being given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven the way you are.

Then he taught them many things by telling them stories. He said, “A farmer went out to plant his seed.

From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Turn away from your sins, because the kingdom of heaven is near.”

He said, “Turn away from your sins! The kingdom of heaven is near.”

Whoever has something will be given more, but if anyone lacks something, even what they have will be taken away from them.”

Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows. The farmer doesn’t know how that happens.
