When he heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to Jesus and begged him to come and heal his son. The boy was close to death.

Jesus went from there to a place near Tyre. He didn’t want anyone to know which house he was staying in, but he couldn’t keep it a secret.

Some men brought a man who couldn’t walk. They were carrying him on a mat.

But the man went out and started spreading the news to everyone. So Jesus couldn’t enter a town openly anymore. He had to stay out in desolate places. But people still came to him from everywhere.

So Jesus got into a boat, crossed over the lake again, and came to his own town.

A crowd gathered at the sound of the believers speaking this way. Each person in the crowd heard their own language, and they couldn’t figure out how this was happening.

Though he had grown up in Nazareth, he went to live in the city of Capernaum. That was by the lake, in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali.

so many of them gathered at the house that it was packed right to the door. As Jesus was preaching the word to them,

Jesus went into another house, and such a large crowd gathered there that he and his disciples weren’t even able to eat.

When he left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him what he’d meant by that.

After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive out the evil spirit?”

Jesus responded, “You’ll certainly apply this saying to me: ‘Doctor, heal yourself!’ And by that you’ll mean, ‘We want you to do here in your hometown the things we’ve heard you did in Capernaum.’ ”
