Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath day in order to obey the Law.

Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of the younger James and Joseph, and Salome.

It was Preparation Day. The next day would be a special Sabbath day. The Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies to be left on the crosses during the Sabbath day, so they asked Pilate to have the men’s legs broken and their bodies taken down.

Jesus’ mother was standing near his cross, as was his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

But the women were shaking so hard and they were so amazed that they left the tomb and ran away. They didn’t say anything to anyone, because they were afraid.

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where Jesus’ body was placed.

She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body to prepare me for burial.

Jesus was in Bethany, eating dinner in the home of Simon the Leper. A woman came in with an alabaster jar that contained very expensive perfume made out of pure nard. She broke the jar open and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head.

It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath day was about to begin.
