They put a purple robe on Jesus, twisted thorns together to make a crown, and forced it onto his head.
Herod and his soldiers mocked Jesus and made fun of him. They dressed him in a fancy robe and then sent him back to Pilate.
The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace, which was called the Praetorium. There they called together the whole company of soldiers.
They pretended to greet him the way they would Caesar: “Hail, king of the Jews!”
