But the chief priests riled up the crowd and got them to ask Pilate to let Barabbas go free instead.

You spoke against the Holy and Blameless One, and you asked for a murderer to be set free instead.

They shouted back, “No! Not him! Give us Barabbas!” Barabbas was a man who’d taken part in a rebellion against the country’s rulers.

But the chief priests and the elders talked the crowd into asking Pilate to set Barabbas free and put Jesus to death.

He knew that the chief priests had brought Jesus to him for trial because they were jealous of him.

“Then what should I do with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
