But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. So the high priest asked him directly, “Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?”

“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.

The Jewish leaders replied, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”

People shouted at him and insulted him, but he didn’t do the same thing back to them. He didn’t threaten to get revenge against the people who were making him suffer. Instead, he trusted in God, who judges fairly.

then what about the one the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why do you accuse me of doing wrong because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?

God will bring him back at the time he has chosen. God is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

He went back inside the palace and asked Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus didn’t answer him.

“So you’re a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I’m a king. The reason I was born and came into the world was to be a witness to the truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to me.”

The Jewish leaders surrounded him and demanded, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you’re the Messiah, come right out and say so.”

Then the high priest stood up in front of everyone and asked Jesus, “Aren’t you going to answer? What have you got to say about the charges these men are bringing against you?”
