I was with you every day, teaching in the temple courtyard, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true.”

“I’ve spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I’ve always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I haven’t said anything in secret.

First thing in the morning, Jesus came back into the temple courtyard. All the people gathered around him there, and he sat down to teach them.

It is written, ‘He was counted among those who had committed crimes.’ I tell you that what is written about me must come true. In fact, it is already coming true.”

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?

But of all this has happened to make the words of the prophets come true.” Then all his disciples abandoned him and ran away.

But then how would the Scriptures come true? They say it has to happen in this way.”

All this took place to make what the Lord had said through the prophet Isaiah come true. He’d said,

Jesus was in the temple courtyard, walking through Solomon’s Porch.

Jesus spoke to the people again and said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness. They will have the light of life.”

On the last and most important day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink!

Every day Jesus was teaching at the temple. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.

Jesus came back into Jerusalem with his disciples. As he was walking in the temple courtyard, the chief priests, teachers of the law, and elders came up to him and asked,

Then Jesus asked the crowd, “Why did you come here with swords and clubs to capture me, as if I’d been leading a rebellion? I was in the temple courtyard every day teaching, but you didn’t try to arrest me.

Jesus left that place and went into the area of Judea on the other side of the Jordan River. Crowds of people came to him once again, and he taught them as he always did.

“Am I leading a rebellion against you?” asked Jesus. “Did you have to come out with swords and clubs to capture me?

Then all his disciples abandoned him and ran away.
