Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? “ ‘The stone the builders wouldn’t accept has become the most important stone of all. The Lord has done this, and it’s wonderful in our eyes.’

As it is written, “Look! I’m laying a stone in Zion that will cause people to trip. It’s a rock that will make them fall. The one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

Jesus answered, “Haven’t you ever read about what David did when he and his men were hungry and needed food?

“Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus. “Haven’t you ever read about it in Scripture? It says, “ ‘Even from children and infants, Lord, you will receive praise.’ ”

Jesus replied, “Haven’t you read that in the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’?

Jesus answered, “Haven’t you ever read what David did? When he and his men were hungry,

“You’ll see ‘the detestable thing that brings desolation’ standing where it doesn’t belong.” (Let the one who reads this be sure to understand.) “Then those who are in Judea should escape to the mountains.

But as for whether people rise from the dead, haven’t you read what God said to you?

Jesus answered, “Haven’t you read about what David did when he and his men were hungry?

But as for whether people rise from the dead, haven’t you read the story of the burning bush in the Book of Moses? God said to Moses, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’

“What will the owner of the vineyard do then? He’ll come and kill those renters and give the vineyard to others.
