When the chief priests and the teachers of the law heard about this, they began to look for a way to kill Jesus. They were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.

When Jesus had finished saying all these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching.

Then the chief priests, teachers of the law, and elders looked for a way to arrest Jesus, because they knew he’d told the story against them. But they were afraid of the crowd, so they left him and went away.

Paul talked about how to live a godly life, about how people should control themselves, and about the time when God will judge everyone. This made Felix afraid. He said, “That’s enough for now! You may go, but when I find the time, I’ll send for you again.”

“No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.

The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest Jesus at once, because they knew he had told that story against them. But they were afraid of the people.

Every day Jesus was teaching at the temple. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.

Everyone said good things about him. They were amazed at the gracious words they heard from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.

But we can’t say, ‘On human authority’!” (They were afraid of the people, because everyone believed that John really was a prophet.)

because Herod was afraid of John and kept him safe. Herod knew John was a holy man who did what was right. When he listened to him, he always felt uncomfortable, but he still liked to hear John speak.

But the Pharisees went out and began to make plans with the Herodians to kill Jesus.

The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them with authority, not like the teachers of the law.

The chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he was doing, and they heard the children in the temple courtyard shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” This made them angry.

Everyone who heard him was astonished by how much he understood and the answers he gave.

After this, Jesus traveled around in Galilee. He didn’t want to travel around in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.

Didn’t Moses give you the law? But not one of you obeys the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”
