and when they found him, they told him, “Everyone is looking for you!”
So the Pharisees said to one another, “Look, we aren’t getting anywhere. See how the whole world is following him!”
If we let him keep doing that, everyone will believe in him. Then the Romans will come and destroy our temple and our nation.”
The disciples came to John and said, “Rabbi, everyone is going to that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan River. You were a witness about who he was, and now he’s here baptizing people.”
Everyone from Jerusalem and the countryside of Judea came out to him. Admitting that they had sinned, John baptized them in the Jordan River.
Simon and his friends went looking for Jesus,
Jesus answered, “Let’s leave this place and go to the towns nearby so I can preach there too. That’s why I’ve come.”
