He suddenly screams when a spirit takes hold of him. It throws him into fits so that he foams at the mouth. It hardly ever leaves him, and it’s destroying him.

The evil spirit was saying this because Jesus had commanded it to come out of the man. Many times it had taken hold of him, so that even though his hands and feet were chained and he was kept under guard, he was able to break his chains. Then the demon would force him to go out into lonely places in the countryside.

“Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down in front of everybody, but it came out without hurting him.

The spirit screamed and shook the boy wildly, then it came out of him. The boy looked so lifeless that many people said, “He’s dead.”

So they brought him. As soon as the spirit saw Jesus, it threw the boy into a fit. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.

The angel of the Abyss was their king. In Hebrew his name is Abaddon, and in Greek it’s Apollyon, which means Destroyer.

Be alert and stay sober. Your enemy the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for something to kill and eat.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s wishes. From the beginning, the devil has been a murderer. He has never obeyed the truth because there’s no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

Whenever it takes hold of him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth, and his body becomes stiff. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they couldn’t.”

A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, my only child!

I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn’t.”
