They laughed at him because they knew she was dead.
But when the Pharisees, who loved money, heard all that Jesus said, they sneered at him.
“Take away the stone,” he said. “But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there will be a bad smell, because Lazarus has been in that tomb for four days.”
“Go away,” he told them, “the girl isn’t dead; she’s sleeping.” They all laughed at him.
During this time, all the people were crying and sobbing loudly over the girl. “Stop crying.” Jesus said. “She isn’t dead; she’s sleeping.”
But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”
