While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” the messenger said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
So Jesus went with them. When Jesus came near the house, the Roman commander sent some of his friends to him. He told them to say, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself. I’m not good enough to have you come into my house.
And suppose the one you ask says, ‘Don’t bother me! The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’
While Jesus was saying this, a synagogue leader came and got down on his knees in front of Jesus. He said, “My daughter has just died. But if you come and place your hand on her, she will live again.”
