It’s surrounded by five rows of columns that have a roof over them. A great number of people who were disabled used to lie down by that pool. These included people who were blind, who couldn’t walk, and who could hardly move.

Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and there he taught the people on the Sabbath day.

Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. On the Sabbath day he went as usual to the synagogue and stood up to read.

Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every illness and sickness that the people had.

Some of the Pharisees said, “This Jesus is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath day.” But others asked, “How could a sinner do such signs?” So the Pharisees were divided.

Jesus turned to the Pharisees and the experts in the law and asked them, “Is it breaking the Law to heal on the Sabbath day?”

Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on a Sabbath day.

One Sabbath day when Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began to break off heads of grain, rub them in their hands, and eat them.

Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day.”
