Live in a way that shows you’ve turned away from your sins, and don’t start saying to yourselves, ‘Abraham is our father.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

I preached first to the people in Damascus, and then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles. I told them to give up their sins and turn to God and to show they’d done this by the way they lived.

“So I tell you that the kingdom of God is going to be taken away from you and given to people who will produce its fruit.

You’ll be filled with the fruit of right living that comes from following Jesus Christ. All of these things bring glory and praise to God.

Not everyone in Abraham’s family line is his child. On the contrary, Scripture says, “Your family line will continue through Isaac.”

That’s why the promise comes by faith, so that it can be based on God’s grace and be guaranteed to all of Abraham’s children. That means not only those who are his children under the law, but also those who are Abraham’s children because have the same faith that he did. He is the father of us all.

“I tell you,” he responded, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

They answered him, “We’re Abraham’s children. We’ve never been slaves to anybody. So how can you say that we’ll be set free?”

“Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you really were Abraham’s children,” Jesus said, “you would do what Abraham did.

If you have turned away from your sins, you have to live in a way that shows that.

Don’t think you’re safe just because you can say, ‘We come from Abraham.’ I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began to think, “Who is this person who says such an evil thing? Only God can forgive sins!”

Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will have stand outside knocking and begging, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you and I don’t know where you’re from.’

“Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you. You taught in our streets.’

If so, the host who invited both of you will come to you and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you’ll be humiliated, and you’ll have to take the least important place.

Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because you, too, are a member of Abraham’s family line.
