But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who hurt you.

Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” After he’d said this, he fell asleep.

If someone does something wrong to you or insults you, don’t do the same thing to them. Instead, respond with kind words. This is what God wants you to do so that you can receive a blessing.

Bless those who keep hurting you. Bless them, don’t curse them.

None of the rulers of this world understood God’s wisdom. If they had, they wouldn’t have nailed the Lord of glory to the cross.

I used to say insulting things about Jesus. I tried to hurt his followers, and I even used violence against them. But God had mercy on me because I did those things without knowing any better. I wasn’t a believer.

“My fellow Israelites, I know that you and your leaders didn’t realize what you were doing.

We work hard with our own hands. When others curse us, we bless them. When we’re attacked, we don’t fight back.

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you’ve hidden these things from wise and educated people and shown them to little children.

Jesus answered, “You wouldn’t have any power over me if it hadn’t been given to you from heaven. So the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

Then they nailed him to the cross. They divided up his clothes, casting lots to see what each of them would get.

Yes, Father, you’ve done what you wanted to do.

He said, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup of suffering away from me. But do what you want, not what I want.”

I pray for them. I’m not praying for the world, but for those you’ve given me, because they’re yours.

But Paul shouted, “Don’t hurt yourself! We’re all here!”
