In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that our enemies would make us suffer, and it has turned out that way, as you know very well.

“I’ve told you these things so that you can have peace because of me. In this world you’re going to have trouble. But be encouraged! I’ve already defeated the world.”

Since Christ suffered in his body, protect yourselves by having the same attitude that he did, because anyone who suffers in their body is finished with sin.

Remember what I told you: ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If people have hated me and tried to hurt me, they will do the same to you. If they have obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours too.

Don’t bring a bag for the journey, or any extra clothes or sandals or a walking stick. A worker deserves to be given what’s needed.

Then Jesus asked the disciples, “Did you lack anything when I sent you without a purse, bag, or sandals?” “Nothing,” they answered.

It is written, ‘He was counted among those who had committed crimes.’ I tell you that what is written about me must come true. In fact, it is already coming true.”

The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “Two swords are enough,” he replied.
