the Pharisees and the teachers of the law started muttering, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this. He said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him—what kind of woman she is. She’s a sinner!”

But when the Son of Man came, he did eat and drink, but you said, ‘He always eats and drinks way too much, and he has tax collectors and sinners for friends.’

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked the disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

But the Pharisees and their teachers of the law complained to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

When they saw what they were getting, they began to complain about the manager.

He did come down at once, and he welcomed Jesus gladly.

But at dinner, Zacchaeus stood up and said, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of what I own to the poor. And if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount I took.”

He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I’ll pay you what’s fair.’
