When Jesus reached the spot where Zacchaeus was, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down at once! I must stay at your house today.”
Here I am! I’ll keep standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I’ll come in and eat with that person, and they’ll eat with me.
Jesus answered, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
Don’t forget to welcome strangers. By doing that, some people have welcomed angels without knowing it.
“Where do you know me from?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree, before Philip called you.”
Then Christ will live in your hearts because you believe in him. And I pray that your love will have deep roots and a strong foundation.
The Son of Man has come to look for the lost and to save them.”
As people who work together with God, we ask you not to receive God’s grace and then do nothing with it.
A man named Zacchaeus lived there. He was a chief tax collector and he was very rich.
So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree so he could see Jesus, since Jesus was coming that way.
He did come down at once, and he welcomed Jesus gladly.
