Then the disciples brought the colt to Jesus. They threw their coats on it and had Jesus ride it.

Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written in Scripture,

They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their coats on them for Jesus to sit on.

This happened to make the words of the prophet come true:

They answered, “The Lord needs it.”

As he went along, people spread their coats on the road.

The next day the large crowd that had come for the feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
