From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples what would happen to him. He told them he would have to go to Jerusalem and that the elders, chief priests, and teachers of the law would make him suffer many things there. He would be killed, but he would rise again on the third day.

He said, “The Son of Man is going to have to suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the law. He will even be killed, but on the third day he will rise from the dead.”

Jesus then began to teach his disciples that the Son of Man would have to suffer a lot. He told them that the elders, chief priests, and teachers of the law would reject him. He said that he would be killed, but that after three days he would rise again.

He came to what was his own, but his own people didn’t accept him.

They will whip him and kill him, but on the third day, he will rise from the dead!”

Haven’t you read what this part of Scripture says? “ ‘The stone that the builders didn’t accept has become the most important stone of all.

Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? “ ‘The stone the builders wouldn’t accept has become the most important stone of all. The Lord has done this, and it’s wonderful in our eyes.’

This made the words of Isaiah the prophet come true. He had said, “Lord, who has believed what we’ve been saying? Who has seen the Lord’s saving power?”

He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

Jesus took the 12 disciples aside and told them, “We’re going up to Jerusalem and everything that the prophets wrote about the Son of Man is going to come true.

“We’re going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “where the Son of Man is going to be handed over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will sentence him to death and hand him over to the Gentiles,

because he was instructing his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be handed over to people who will kill him, but after three days he will rise from the dead.”
