“Not long after that, the younger son packed up everything he had, went to a distant country, and wasted his money on extravagant living.
“Once there was a rich man who dressed in purple clothes and fine linen. He lived an easy life every day.
Jesus told his disciples another story. He said, “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting what the rich man owned.
But when this son of yours comes home after wasting your money on prostitutes, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
They’ll be paid back with harm for all the harm they’ve done. Their idea of a good time is a wild party in the middle of the day. They’re like dirty spots and stains. They enjoy their sinful pleasures even while they’re eating with you.
He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.
But now, in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near to God by the blood of Christ.
The younger son said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the family property.’ So the father divided the property between his two sons.
But after he’d spent everything, there was a famine in that area, and he began to go hungry.
