If a person asks you for something, give it to them, and if a person wants to borrow something from you, let them borrow it.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ gave his life for us. So we should give our own lives for our brothers and sisters.

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Welcome one another into your homes.

He brought them out and asked, “My lords, what must I do to be saved?”

“ ‘You have done well, my good slave!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have shown that you are faithful through this very small matter, I’m going to put you in charge of ten towns.’

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You are still missing one thing. Sell everything you have, give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

I tell you, use the riches of this world to make friends for yourselves. Then when your riches are gone, you will be welcomed into an eternal home.

Command people who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to put their hope in riches, which are so uncertain. Tell them to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

When the people heard this, it struck them deeply in their hearts. They said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

“The manager said to himself, ‘What am I going to do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m too ashamed to beg.

So sell what you own and give to the poor. That will be like putting your money in a bag that will never wear out. Store up your riches in heaven, where they can never be used up, where no thief can get near them and no moth can destroy them.

Don’t spend your time thinking about what you’ll eat or drink; don’t worry about it.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you, don’t worry about your life and what you will eat, and don’t worry about your body and what you will wear.

But if you show that you’re generous on the inside by giving freely to the poor, then everything will be clean for you.

One day an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to have eternal life?”

John answered, “Anyone who has extra clothes should share them with those who have none, and anyone who has extra food should do the same.”

The disciples talked this over among themselves and decided, “He must be saying this because we didn’t bring any bread.”

Then Jesus told them a story. He said, “There was a rich man whose land produced a very large crop.

“But then he said, ‘I know what I’ll do! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and I’ll store my extra grain there.
