One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. Let the Holy Spirit guide you when you pray.

On one of those days, Jesus went up onto a mountainside to pray. He spent the whole night praying to God.

One day when Jesus was praying alone and only his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, with loud cries and tears he prayed to and pleaded with the God who could save him from death, and God listened to him because of his reverence.

About eight days after Jesus had said this, he took Peter, John, and James with him and went up on a mountain to pray.

When the Lord saw her, he felt compassion for her and said, “Don’t cry.”

and sent them to the Lord to ask him, “Are you the one who is supposed to come, or should we look for someone else?”

but few things are needed—actually, only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus said to them, “When you pray, this is what you should say: “ ‘Father, may your name be honored. May your kingdom come.
