Those who heard what he had said began to go away one at a time. The older ones left first, and then the younger ones. Finally, only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.

They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts. Their consciences are also helping them to know right from wrong. Sometimes they get the feeling that they’ve done wrong, but at other times they recognize that they’ve done right. It’s the ones who have obeyed the law who will be declared right with God.

If we feel guilty in our hearts, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

You say that people shouldn’t commit adultery, but you commit adultery! You hate statues of gods, but you rob temples!
