Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I’ve come here from God. I haven’t come on my own; God sent me.

Then they asked him, “Where is your father?” “You don’t know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would also know my Father.”

“I have much to say in judgment of you. But the one who sent me is trustworthy, and I’m telling the world what I’ve heard from him.”

Jesus answered, “Even if I am a witness about myself, what I say is valid. I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I’m going.

And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you’ve sent.

I haven’t spoken on my own. The Father who sent me has commanded me to say everything I’ve said.

I’ve come in my Father’s name, and you haven’t accepted me. But if someone else comes in his own name, you accept him.

“My Father has given everything to me. No one knows the Son except the Father. No one knows the Father except the Son—and anyone the Son chooses to show the Father to.

Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts what God says about him. Whoever doesn’t believe what God says is calling him a liar by not believing what God has said about his Son.

That’s why he swore an oath. Then there were two things that guaranteed God was telling the truth: his promise and his oath. He gave us those two things so that we’d be very encouraged as we run to take hold of the hope that has been set before us.

Then they will live in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began that he would give us.

God said, “Let light shine out of darkness.” And he made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light we needed to know God’s glory, which is shown in the face of Christ.

Just as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”

Not at all! Let God be true, even if every human being is a liar. As it is written, “So that you may be proved right when you speak and the courts may decide in your favor.”

They didn’t think it was important to know God, so God left them unable to discern right from wrong.

As I walked around, I looked carefully at the things you worship. I even found an altar that said, to an unknown god. Now I’m going to tell you about this ‘god’ that you worship without knowing who he is.

But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I’m not alone. I stand with the Father who sent me.

But there’s someone else who’s a witness in my favor, and I know that what he says about me is trustworthy.

Anyone who does accept it acknowledges that God is true.

came to see Jesus one night. He said, “Rabbi, we know that you’re a teacher who has come from God, because no one could do the signs you’re doing unless God was with them.”

“Nazareth!” Nathanael responded. “Can anything good come from there?” “Come and see,” Philip answered.

“My Father has given all things to me. No one knows who the Son is except for the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except for the Son and anyone the Son chooses to make the Father known to.”

Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother kept all these things like a secret treasure in her heart.

Joseph and Mary did everything that the Law of the Lord required, and then they returned to their own town of Nazareth in Galilee.

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born for you! He is the Messiah, the Lord.

Because Joseph was from the family line of David, he went from Nazareth in Galilee to Judea so he could register there in Bethlehem, the town of David.

There he lived in a town called Nazareth. The prophets had said that Jesus would be called a Nazarene, and in this way their words came true.

When the feast was halfway over, Jesus went up to the temple courtyard and began to teach.

Then Jesus asked the crowd, “Why did you come here with swords and clubs to capture me, as if I’d been leading a rebellion? I was in the temple courtyard every day teaching, but you didn’t try to arrest me.

They asked, “Isn’t this Jesus—Joseph’s son? We know who his father and mother are. So how can he now claim, ‘I came down from heaven’?”

We know that God spoke to Moses, but we don’t even know where this man comes from.”
