Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courtyard, cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I’m from. I’m not here on my own authority. The one who sent me is true. You don’t know him,
“I’ve spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I’ve always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I haven’t said anything in secret.
Then Jesus asked the crowd, “Why did you come here with swords and clubs to capture me, as if I’d been leading a rebellion? I was in the temple courtyard every day teaching, but you didn’t try to arrest me.
Jesus entered the temple courtyard and began to drive out all those who were buying and selling there. He turned over the tables of the people who exchanged money and the benches of those who sold doves.
He spoke these words while he was teaching in the temple courtyard near the place where the offerings were put. But no one arrested him, because his time hadn’t come yet.
