Then the Jews there began to complain about Jesus because he’d said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”
I am the bread of life.
The bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Many people in the crowd were whispering about him. Some said, “He’s a good man.” Others replied, “No, he’s misleading the people.”
From this time on, many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
Many of Jesus’ disciples said when they heard this, “This is an unpleasant message. Who can accept it?”
These people follow their own evil desires. They grumble and complain about others, but they brag about themselves and praise others to get what they want.
This is the bread that came down from heaven. Long ago your people ate manna and died, but whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
“Stop grumbling,” Jesus told them.
When all the people saw this, they began to whisper among themselves, “Jesus has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
the Pharisees and the teachers of the law started muttering, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
But the Pharisees and their teachers of the law complained to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
And don’t speak against God, as some of the people of Israel did—and they were killed by the destroying angel.
