There were six water jars nearby made from stone. The Jews used water from that kind of jar to wash themselves so that they would be pure and clean. Each jar could hold 20 to 30 gallons.

We’ve learned about different ways of becoming clean and about placing hands on people to bless them. We know that people will rise from the dead and that God will judge everyone for eternity.

“I’m baptizing you with water so you can show that you’ve turned away from your sins. But someone is coming after me who’s more powerful than I am. I’m not even worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

The water of the flood is a picture of the way that baptism now saves you too. It doesn’t save you by washing the dirt off your body. Instead, it’s your way of promising God that you’ll keep a clear conscience by the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead.

So the copies of the heavenly things had to be made pure with these sacrifices. But the heavenly things themselves had to be made pure with better sacrifices.

They deal only with food and drink and different kinds of ceremonial washings, which are rules about the outside of a person. They had to be followed only until the new covenant came.

You’ve let go of God’s commands, and instead you’re holding on to teachings that people have passed down.”
