It was about noon on Preparation Day of Passover Week. “Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.

Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold, but I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”

The Jewish chief priests argued with Pilate and said, “You shouldn’t have written, ‘The King of the Jews.’ Write that this man claimed he was king of the Jews.”

From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free. But the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you’re not Caesar’s friend! Anyone who claims to be a king is against Caesar!”

Then they kept going up to him and saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” while they slapped him in the face.

Then Pilate went back inside the palace and ordered Jesus to be brought to him. Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

Nathanael replied, “Rabbi, you’re the Son of God! You’re the king of Israel!”

“I used to think I should do everything I could to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

There he lived in a town called Nazareth. The prophets had said that Jesus would be called a Nazarene, and in this way their words came true.

They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
