Jesus answered, “You wouldn’t have any power over me if it hadn’t been given to you from heaven. So the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

Everyone should obey the government, because the government gets its authority from God. God has established the government.

John replied, “A person can receive only what is given to them from heaven.

Long ago God planned that Jesus would be handed over to you. With the help of those who didn’t know God’s law, and under the plan God spoke long ago, you put him to death by nailing him to a cross.

The God of our fathers—of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—has done this, to bring glory to his servant Jesus. But you handed Jesus over to be killed. You spoke against him when he was in Pilate’s court, even though Pilate had decided to let him go.

When he said this, they tried to arrest him. But no one laid a hand on him because his time hadn’t come yet.

Every good and perfect gift is from above. It comes down from the Father who created the heavenly lights. He doesn’t change like shadows that move.

Don’t let us fall into temptation, and save us from the evil one.’

If anyone knows there’s something good they should do, but they don’t do it, that’s a sin for them.

Everything is from him and through him and for him. May God be given the glory forever! Amen.

They did what your power and purpose had already decided would happen.

They tied him up, took him away, and turned him over to Pilate, the governor.

Judas had arranged to hand Jesus over by giving them a signal. “The one I kiss will be the man,” he’d told them. “Arrest him and have the guards lead him away.”

So Judas came to the garden, guiding a group of soldiers and some officials sent by the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns, and weapons.

Jesus said, “If you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, you remain guilty.

Every day I was with you in the temple courtyard, yet you didn’t lay a hand on me. But this is your time, when darkness rules.”

Then the high priest ripped his clothes and said, “This man has claimed to be God! Why do we need any more witnesses? You’ve heard what he said.

and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time.

“Are you refusing to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you understand? I have the power to set you free or to nail you to a cross.”
