When Jesus responded this way, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is that any way to answer the high priest?” he demanded.

As soon as the chief priests and officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. I haven’t found any basis for a charge against him myself.”

A man named Cornelius, who was a Roman commander in the Italian Regiment, lived in Caesarea.
