So Judas came to the garden, guiding a group of soldiers and some officials sent by the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns, and weapons.
The people were trying to kill Paul, but news of the violence reached the commander of the Roman troops. He heard that people were making trouble in the whole city of Jerusalem.
Very early in the morning, the chief priests agreed on a verdict with the elders, the teachers of the law, and the whole Sanhedrin. They tied Jesus up, took him away, and turned him over to Pilate.
The people arguing were getting so out of control that the commander began to worry that they would tear Paul to pieces. So he ordered some soldiers to take him away from them by force and bring him into the fort.
