Simon Peter had a sword and he pulled it out. He swung at the high priest’s slave and cut off his right ear. The slave’s name was Malchus.
Then one of those who was with Jesus reached for his sword. He pulled it out and slashed at the high priest’s slave with it, cutting off his ear.
One of the high priest’s slaves was a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off. He said to Peter, “Didn’t I see you with Jesus in the garden?”
But Simon answered, “Lord, I’m ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus responded, “tonight—before the rooster crows twice—you’ll claim three times that you don’t know me.”
