Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered, “You can’t follow me right now to where I’m going. But you will follow me later.”

Jesus told them, “I’m only going to be with you for a short time. Then I’ll go to the one who sent me.

I came from the Father and entered the world. Now I’m leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

I’ve brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.

They can be made right with God because I’m going to the Father and you won’t see me anymore.

And let’s keep looking to Jesus. He’s the one who leads us into faith and the one who makes our faith mature. Because of the joy he was looking forward to, he didn’t let the shame of being put to death on a cross stop him. He suffered on the cross, and then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Son is the brilliance of God’s glory and the exact likeness of God’s being. He holds everything together by his powerful word. Once he had provided the way for people to be made pure from sin, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Jesus knew that the Father had put everything under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.

Jesus continued, “In a little while you won’t see me anymore. Then after a little while you’ll see me again.”

“You heard me say, ‘I’m going away and I’m coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you’d be glad that I’m going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

Then what if you see the Son of Man go back up to where he was before?

“I’m coming to you now, but I say these things while I’m still in the world so that those you gave me can have the same joy that I have.

When they heard this, some of his disciples asked one another, “What does he mean when he says, ‘In a little while you won’t see me anymore. Then after a little while you’ll see me again’? And what does he mean when he says, ‘I’m going to the Father’?”
