It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Jesus had always loved his disciples who were in the world, and he now loved them to the very end.
Jesus answered, “Even if I am a witness about myself, what I say is valid. I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I’m going.
“You heard me say, ‘I’m going away and I’m coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you’d be glad that I’m going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.
I’m not going to remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I’m coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they can be one just as you and I are one.
