When they heard this, some of his disciples asked one another, “What does he mean when he says, ‘In a little while you won’t see me anymore. Then after a little while you’ll see me again’? And what does he mean when he says, ‘I’m going to the Father’?”

Jesus continued, “In a little while you won’t see me anymore. Then after a little while you’ll see me again.”

But now I’m going to the one who sent me. None of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’

But they didn’t understand what he meant, and they were afraid to ask him about it.

Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about these things, so he said to them, “Are you asking each other what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you won’t see me anymore, then after a little while you’ll see me again’?

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going. So how can we know the way?”

At first, Jesus’ disciples didn’t understand all this. They only realized after he was glorified that these things had been written about him and that they had been done to him.

The disciples didn’t understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, so they didn’t know what Jesus was talking about.

So they kept the matter to themselves. But they asked each other what “rising from the dead” meant.

“I’ve told you all this so that you won’t turn away from the truth.

Then another disciple named Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “Lord why do you plan to show yourself to us but not to the world?”

But they didn’t understand what this meant, because it was hidden from them, and they were afraid to ask Jesus about it.

They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he’s saying.”
