If you belonged to the world, it would love you as one of its own. But you don’t belong to the world. I’ve chosen you out of the world. That’s why the world hates you.

You didn’t choose me, I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit that would endure, so that you would receive from the Father anything you ask for in my name.

Don’t be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because the things he did were wrong, and the things his brother did were right.

“Suppose you love those who love you. Should anyone praise you for that? Even sinners love those who love them.

You’ve spent enough time in the past doing what ungodly people choose to do. You lived a wild life and wanted the wrong things. You got drunk and went to wild parties. You worshiped statues of gods, which is something the Lord hates.

The dragon was very angry with the woman, so he went off to fight a war against the rest of her children. They’re all the people who obey God’s commands and speak the truth about Jesus to others.

The great dragon was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. That dragon is the old serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.

Everyone will hate you because of me. But anyone who stands firm to the end will be saved.

“Then people will hand you over to be oppressed and killed, and all nations will hate you because of me.

Then Jesus replied, “Haven’t I chosen you 12 disciples? But one of you is a devil!”

“I’m not talking about all of you. I know the ones I’ve chosen. But something is going to happen to make the passage of Scripture come true that says, ‘The one who shared my bread has turned against me.’

You unfaithful people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Anyone who chooses to be the world’s friend becomes God’s enemy.
