John 13:1

Radiate New Testament

It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Jesus had always loved his disciples who were in the world, and he now loved them to the very end.

He responded, “The time has come for the Son of Man to receive glory.

We love because he loved us first.

“I’m giving you a new command: Love one another. You must love one another just as I have loved you.

I came from the Father and entered the world. Now I’m leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

Jesus knew that the Father had put everything under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God.

Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him. So he went out and asked them, “Who are you looking for?”

God will keep you strong to the very end, so that you will be blameless on the day he returns.

They don’t belong to the world, just as I don’t belong to it.

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed, “Father, the time has come. Bring glory to your Son so that your Son may bring glory to you.

and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first to rise from the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth. Jesus loves us and has set us free from our sins by his blood.

We have come to share in Christ, but we need to maintain right to the end the confidence we started with.

So now, Father, give me glory there with you, the glory I had with you before the world began.

Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look! The time has come. The Son of Man is about to be handed over to sinners.

So make sure your minds stay alert and completely sober. Put your hope in the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ returns.

We want each of you to show this same dedication to the very end, so that everything you’re hoping for will happen.

But Christ is faithful over God’s house as his Son. And we are his house, if we hold tightly to our courage and the hope we boast about.

No! In all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us.

I’ve made your name known to them, and I will continue to show you to them. Then the love you have for me will be in them, and I myself will be in them.”

“You heard me say, ‘I’m going away and I’m coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you’d be glad that I’m going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover Feast, many people went up from the countryside to Jerusalem for the special washing that would make them pure before the feast.

When he said this, they tried to arrest him. But no one laid a hand on him because his time hadn’t come yet.

So Jesus told them, “My time hasn’t come yet. For you, any time would be the right time.

It was almost time for the Jewish Passover Feast.

Every day I was with you in the temple courtyard, yet you didn’t lay a hand on me. But this is your time, when darkness rules.”

When the time grew near for Jesus to be taken up to heaven, he resolved to go to Jerusalem.

Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I will always be with you, to the very end of the age.”

He spoke these words while he was teaching in the temple courtyard near the place where the offerings were put. But no one arrested him, because his time hadn’t come yet.

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover Feast, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Judas was in charge of the money, some of the disciples thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the feast. Others thought Jesus was talking about giving something to the poor.

but he’s coming so that the world may learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me to do. “Now let’s get up and be on our way.

Later, when Jesus knew that everything had now been finished, so that Scripture would come true, he said, “I’m thirsty.”
