When he said that, they picked up stones to kill him. But Jesus slipped out of sight and left the temple area.

After he said that, the Jewish leaders wanted even more to kill him, because he wasn’t just breaking the law for the Sabbath day. He was calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

“Rabbi,” they objected, “the Jews there were just trying to kill you with stones. And now you want to go back?”

Was there ever a prophet your people didn’t attack? They even killed those who told about the coming of the Blameless One. And now you’ve handed him over to his enemies and murdered him.

So you’ll have to pay for all the blood of godly people that has been spilled on the earth. I mean from the blood of godly Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berekiah, who was murdered between the temple and the altar.

“But the renters mistreated his slaves. They beat one of them, killed another, and threw stones at a third.

But the Pharisees went out and started making plans to kill Jesus.

When the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask John who he was,

The Jewish leaders surrounded him and demanded, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you’re the Messiah, come right out and say so.”

But Jesus said to them, “I’ve shown you many good works from the Father. Which good work are you going to throw stones at me for?”
