The Pharisees who’d been sent
When Jesus went outside, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law opposed him fiercely.
But when the Pharisees, who loved money, heard all that Jesus said, they sneered at him.
But the Pharisees and the experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they hadn’t been baptized by John.
They’ve known me for a long time, and they could tell you, if they wanted to, that I’ve lived by the rules of the Pharisees. Their rules are harder to obey than those of any other Jewish group.
The Sadducees say that people don’t rise from the dead, and they also don’t believe in angels or spirits. But the Pharisees believe all those things.
Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside will also be clean.
John replied, using the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I’m the voice calling out in the desert, ‘Make a straight way for the Lord.’ ”
asked him, “Why are you baptizing people if you’re not the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet we’ve been expecting?”
