Is anyone among you in trouble? Then that person should pray. Is anyone among you happy? Then that person should sing songs of praise.

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, with loud cries and tears he prayed to and pleaded with the God who could save him from death, and God listened to him because of his reverence.

Then everyone sang a new song in front of the throne and the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who’d been rescued from the earth.

Because he was so distressed, he prayed even harder, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Then they sang a hymn, and they went out to the Mount of Olives.

They cried out in a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”

Brothers and sisters, what should we say then? When you come together, each of you should bring something—a hymn, a teaching, a revelation, a message in another language, or an explanation of what was said in another language. Everything must be done to build up the church.

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

So what should I do? I’ll pray with my spirit, but I’ll also pray with my understanding. I’ll sing with my spirit, but I’ll also sing with my understanding.

Brothers and sisters, as an example of how to be patient when you suffer, think about the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
